SHOPPING TIPS FOR PETITE WOMEN

It is difficult for most people to fathom the difficulties that petite women face when shopping. Least of our problems is being able to reach the clothes that are hung higher up in the store. When you are between the height of 5’ and 5’4, clothes simply do not fit you like they are supposed to. Modest necklines become plunging, hems drag on the floor, and all sleeves hang past our fingers. Most shopping trips have you threatening to start your very own clothing store just so you will finally own something that fits.

There are a few ways to use the pre-existing styles to your advantage. You can still shop for cute clothes from AxParis and other stores and not have them look ridiculous on you. A few tips and tricks and you will be on the way to rocking the latest trends with just a little bit less of a hassle:

Mid-Length

What most people consider mid-length – a few inches past their knees – is actually full length for most petite people. Since maxi dresses are usually out of the question without heels, these are the next best thing. This is because these dresses or even pants will actually end at the ankle for you. This will save you the time, money, and trouble of having to take in the hemlines yourself. It will also give you a more tailored look with cleaner lines.

Elbow-length

Our arms, in additional, to all our other limbs are considerably shorter than most ‘regular’ people. This is why all long sleeved shirts and jackets fall way past our wrists. To counter this, get clothes that were designed to stop a little past the elbow for taller people. This means, that on you, the sleeves will stop right at your wrists. Say goodbye to your sleeves getting in the way of everything.

Low-high

This trend adds structure to boxier outlines on clothes. You can afford to wear looser clothing or jackets if they have a low-high hemline. This is because your front will be more exposed, adding much needed height to your outfit. The back is lower but it does not affect the overall shape of the dress, skirt, or coat.

There are many fun things about being petite, shopping, unfortunately is not usually one of them. There are not many fashion brands that carry petite sizes so this can be a little frustrating. This does not mean that you have to abstain from your favourite trends, however. With these guidelines you can now wear clothes from your desired stores.

High-Waist

Clothes that have already been created solely for the purpose of being high-waist are going to be your new best friend. There are a few reasons why high-waist is the way to go for smaller made women. First, it elongates your body, which is always a plus. It gives you the appearance of having longer legs and being taller. Also when clothes are high-waist, they are generally much shorter, usually ending around the ankles. This means that you will not be tripping over skirts or tucking in the cuffs of your trousers. Shop high-waist clothes when you are looking for a better fit.
