Now I am in my third trimester,
I think I have mastered the key tips on what or how to wear clothing while pregnant
STOP UP SIZING IN JUMPERS
This is the biggest mistake I have been making.
It took me until 28 weeks to realise.
Just because I am pregnant, I do not have to go up two sizes to feel comfortable in jumpers.
In fact, it was making me feel more uncomfortable.
My biggest tip is if it is maternity stay your size or size down.
If it is not maternity stay your size.
If it is a baggy and unfitted item, size down.
Your baby bump is beautiful and as my boyfriend keeps telling me;
SHOW IT OFF.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO WEAR MATERNITY WEAR
I’m 29 weeks pregnant, almost 30 weeks and all I own is three pairs of maternity jeans and a maternity jumper.
In all honesty, the only maternity wear you really need is jeans.
And even then you can stretch it out with the old elastic band trick (for those who don’t know, google it).
I have mastered the art of sizing.
For example, this Asos Zebra Print Skirt is not maternity but I upsized to a 10 and it fits wonderfully over my bump, with a side zip fastening.
Know the fabric you are buying.
If it is stretchy you can size down so the item wraps around your bump.
If it has a zip fastening it will fit over the bump, you just have to upsize (this doesn’t go for denim).
EXPERIMENT WITH PRINTS ON YOUR LOWER HALF
So many people have told me all they wore was black when they were pregnant.
DONT DO IT.
Try different things.
Your bump is something new, push the boundaries.
You could opt for a leopard print jacket if you don’t think you could wear a printed skirt, shirt or knit.
BUY NEW BRAS
As silly as this may sound.
Having a bra that fits and cups your boobs perfectly makes such a difference to everything you wear.
If you don’t want to keep buying new underwear.
Try waiting until the end of your second trimester, that way your less likely to up another size.
It will make sure a difference even when wearing a plain white T.
YOU CAN WEAR HEELS
Don’t be afraid to wear heels still.
I find kitten heels or block heeled boots have been my favourite choice.
You can shop most of my footwear via my Instagram here.
EMBRACE THE BUMP SHOW IT OFF
Being pregnant has been my most confident time.
Beforehand, my belly was my biggest hate, and for once I can wear ribbed dressed without having to breathe in.
I’m trying bodycon and lycra fabrics too.
STAY AWAY FROM LEGGINGS
I fully understand how easy it can be to just pull on those trusty and very comfortable leggings. But don’t fall into the trap of wearing them every single day for ease.
I wear leggings during the days at home, but I will never wear them over the weekend, out for drinks or lunch.
Know when not to wear them.
