14 TIPS ON THROWING THE BEST GENDER REVEAL PARTY

14 tips to get the most out of your gender reveal party

1. DECIDE HOW YOU WANT TO ANNOUNCE

There are so many options online to help you decide how to announce the gender of your new baby to your family and friends. The confetti balloon pop was my favourite. I wanted to do this with Pollyanna but we hadn’t planned it so ended up with balloons in a box that popped out instead. Take a look on Pinterest or YouTube for some inspiration. My other favourites were the cake reveal and powder cannons.

2. ASK THE SONOGRAPHER TO WRITE IT ON A PIECE OF PAPER

The whole point of a gender reveal is that nobody, not even you know what gender the baby is. Ask the sonographer to write down the gender on a piece of paper.
We took a card in and an envelope to the scan with us and made sure it was sealed tight so we wouldn’t know.

3. DON’T LET ANYONE KNOW

A lot of people think they have to let a family member or friend know the gender so they can arrange the party for them, but that is not true.
The best part is leaving everybody in suspense, keep hold of the envelope and pass it onto the person helping you with your prop.

4. ORDER THE PROP ASAP

As soon as you have decided what way you want to announce it, order the prop. Both times we took the envelope into the shop and allowed them to take a peek so they could create the prop. If you are ordering the prop online then you will have get somebody you know to take a look and place the order for you. Which is personally why I done everything local, which takes me onto my next point.

5. USE LOCAL COMPANIES

There are so many huge companies offering props for parties like this however get online; Facebook and Google and search for local companies that can help make your day special. You will be supporting local small businesses and it will take a lot of the hard work of your hands.

6. CAKE TOPPER

We custom made our ‘Boy or Girl?’ cake topper from twenty-seven, it’s nice to cover every little detail.

7. GET PINNING

Pinterest should be your best friend when planning any party, it is where I get all of my inspiration from. You can take a look at my party planning board here.

8. CATER TO CHILDREN

Catering to children was a huge part of our day because a lot of children were there. We had a bouncy castle with a slide which allowed the children to play all throughout the day.
On top of that we had a candy floss machine with pink and blue floss, I started off making them but by the end of the day the older kids got the hang of it and they were having fun making it themselves. Both were from The Procesco Lounge.

9. COLOUR SCHEME

A colour scheme is so important because it keeps everything looking perfect and instagramable.
I found pastel colours to be my favourite for the gender reveal, some people choose just pink and blue

10. PROPS

A few years ago a gender reveal party would have been unheard of, however now you can get some of the best gender reveal props.
We had a sweet cart, baby blocks and a flower wall from Bay Wedding Props and it certainly made the party look incredible. Other ideas could be a doughnut wall, prosecco wall, cake or cloth back drops.

11. BALLOON ARCH

It’s not a party without balloons. For Pollyanna’s first birthday I created the balloon arch myself but this time I came across Mimi Event Hire who created the most beautiful balloon arch that we placed over the sweet cart. Hiring someone to create something like this saves you a lot of time and it was one of the main attractions of the day.

12. SWEET CART TIPS

Have the same jars on each side so each side mirrors each other. I filled our jars with only pink and blue sweets and offer sweet bags. The gender reveal cake sat on top of the sweet cart.

13. ANNOUNCEMENT BACKDROP

The perfect backdrop for the annoucment is just as important as the announcment prop. If you are going to the effort of throwing a party, think about what you will be standing in front of. Family and friends will be taking photos and videos so make it look pretty. We used the most beautiful faux floral (although looked real) flower wall from Bay Wedding Props.

14. SPARKLE DROPS

Sparkle drops are sparkle shimmer which can be added to drinks, pink and blue ones are perfect for a gender reveal. You could ask people to choose pink or blue before the announcement.
